Glynnis Young, a passionate servant leader in the mental health industry, has committed her life’s work to instilling resiliency in others and empowering individuals to make positive transformations in their lives. Her decorated 24-year career in the United States Air Force, intertwined with her intense study in the field of Psychology, has equipped her with a deep understanding and compassion for those affected by trauma.
Ms. Young serves as the clinical manager and mental health therapist at AAPS. She brings a unique skillset and perspective to the Avondale and Associates team with more than two decades of experience in the military supporting service members through unforeseen trauma and mental health complications. Her personal and professional experiences fuel her expertise in serving clients who have been affected by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sexual assault, and interpersonal violence.
After 24 years of selflessly serving our nation as a leader in the United States Air Force, Ms. Young’s intense passion for serving others led her to a new career in psychotherapy here at Avondale and Associates Psychological Services.
Her extensive knowledge, keen sense of adaptability, and sensitive approach to treatment equip her to explore generational and present-day traumas with a therapeutic approach that is flexible and tailored to her clients. Her vast skillset and well-rounded expertise span several therapeutic approaches, including Narrative Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Ms. Young’s advanced educational background also emphasizes her dedication to supporting her clients in overcoming their past traumas to live a more fulfilling life. She earned a bachelor’s in psychology from Howard University and a master’s in clinical psychology from the American University. Ms. Young is also a Certified Gottman Couples Therapist and is currently furthering her institutional knowledge with a doctoral degree in psychology from Liberty University.
Outside of the office, Ms. Young is heavily involved in her community as a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society of Psychology and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She also finds balance in the tranquil pursuits of reading and the excitement of travel when she's not engaged in her therapeutic practice.
